Marg Addison - BOP, Waikato

Marg who lives in the Bay of Plenty, was raised on a dairy and sheep farm near Hamilton, started her career in the dairy industry at Ruakura Research Centre (now Innovation Park). Research has been a large part of her career, having researched mastitis, facial eczema and dairy nutrition before joining Kiwi Fertiliser in 2014.

Our programme applies real science in terms of soil, testing plant available nutrients and recommends according to each individual farm’s requirements. We custom blend and work with each farmer to support their strategy and budget. There is a lot of fake news around the Regenerative space and real science is repeatable, which we have proven on farm many times.

Marg is passionate about the Kiwi Fertiliser Way, following the methods of Dr William Albrecht refined by Neal Kinsey to improve soil fertility and adding the finishing touch with probiotics once the house for the biology is established. Getting the basic nutrients right with Base saturations in balance makes a massive difference to chemical, structural and biological health of the soil.  The outcome is that farmers experience increased pasture quality, increased dry matter yields, better moisture retention, good root structure, less leaching, less weed pressure, less pest issues, improved animal health, and provide sustainability of the land in N.Z.

Marg has experienced research into greenhouse gas emissions and seen the devastation on many farms caused by excess fertiliser use. She believes any calculation on emission trading should include pasture capturing nitrogen and carbon and show roots as a means to prevent leaching. We audit the soil and only recommend replacement of deficiencies and work to reduce excesses. The economics stack up well with reduced fertiliser use and lower vet and reproduction bills.
